As a lawyer, I often get to hear jokes about lawyers and have received many backhanded compliments about my chosen profession. Lawyers are often viewed in a negative light and sometimes rightly so. However, I do find it ironic that lawyers are the first to be called upon when people need help with a legal problem. Beginning today, state and municipal police officers in Delaware will be cracking down on drivers who talk or text on their handheld cellphones while driving. The “Phone in One Hand. Ticket in the Other” driving campaign aims to reduce distracted driving, said Alison Kirk, spokeswoman for the state Office of Highway Safety.
A vehicle stop on Tuesday in Clayton led to the discovery of prescription drugs, suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia, Clayton police said in a release today. On Tuesday at about 2:38 p.m., a Clayton officer spotted a vehicle with a passenger who was a suspect in a March 13 vehicle pursuit.
A 31-year-old Pennsylvania man was arrested by Dewey Beach police over the weekend for threatening a taxi driver with a pocket knife. The incident unfolded about 10:15 p.m. Saturday in the second block of New Orleans St. where two women got into a cab that a man and a woman then tried to enter, Sgt. Clifford Dempsey said.
Two men have been charged after being involved in a fraudulent prescription incident, Middletown police said today. It happened Tuesday at about 6:10 p.m. at the Rite Aid at 455 W. Main St. Middletown police were sent to the business on a report of a person passing a forged prescription to the pharmacy.
A 55-year-old Milford man was arrested and charged with terroristic threatening and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited following an incident at a residence in the 1000 block of Lemuel St. on Feb. 15, police said in a release today. Detective Dwight Young said that an investigation revealed Anthony E. King had multiple shotguns and a rifle at his residence and that he stated he was going to kill everyone in the State Service Center Building in Milford because he was denied benefits.
Dover, Del. — State Police are investigating the robbery of a South Dover liquor store that occurred yesterday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. as two suspects, one armed with a handgun, entered the Airport Discount Liquors located at 1148 South Bay Road.
A 25-year-old Dover man has been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries on the city’s west side, police said today. Capt. Tim Stump said an investigation linked Daniel Monsalve to a burglary in the 1400 block of S. Farmview Drive, three burglaries at Ruben Trucking at 1575 McKee Road and a burglary in the 300 block of Northdown Drive in the Village of Westover.
